Sligo Folk Park

The Forge has a working blacksmith, Michael Budd, who uses only traditional forging techniques with the aid of the hand pumped bellows, hammer and anvil to create both contemporary and traditional work of his own design. This ranges from sculptor to tools, gates to candlesticks, fire tools to signs. He supplies his work to the craft shop located on site at Sligo Folk Park as well as local shops and galleries and is available for private commissions. There is always something to see in the forge and Michael welcomes people to come in for a chat and watch him work.

“All of my work is created using only traditional blacksmithing techniques and incorporating contemporary design. It is mainly either one-off pieces of sculpture, limited edition design items or uniquely designed and forged commissions. A lot of the enjoyment for me is creating something that is well made and crafted, yet interesting and beautiful, which means time to get it right. I take on all aspects of forge work from gates and railings to sculpture and all things in-between.
