This month, the Sligo Folk Park team has been watching in awe as a talented master craftswoman works to transform Mrs Buckley’s cottage. Using the rare skill of traditional thatching, the roof of the world’s most travelled Irish cottage is starting to take shape.
We have been taking photos after each day of work and will post updates as they occur.
In the meantime, if you are interested in traditional arts, crafts and skills, why not visit the Folk Park and watch the thatcher in action? You can also visit the Hands Exhibition, to learn more about this skill and many others, including basket-weaving, butter making, bee-keeping, spinning wool, ploughing and threshing oats and many more.
